WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?

Sustainability of childcare provision is a key strand of the Government’s policy.

Barnsley Choices offers support and information to all childcare providers as an aid to sustainability.

Barnsley Choices is currently reviewing the best way forward to support providers. Details will follow.

Do you have an idea for a project? Don’t have the money to try something out? There may be funding organisations, grant giving bodies or businesses in your area that support such projects.

Most Local Libraries have a software program called Grant Finder. This program has details of all grant-giving bodies in Britain and is updated on a regular basis. It will identify organisations that may be able to help you just by entering a few criteria in the search.

Also held at most libraries are copies of the Directory Of Social Change’s Directory of Grant Making Trusts or if you have access to the Internet try these:

Have you heard of SYFAB (South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau)?

SYFAB is a voluntary organisation and registered charity and it’s work is funded by Sheffield City Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, SRB5/6 Barnsley, Big Lottery Fund, ChangeUp, Lloyds TSB Foundation.

SYFAB can help voluntary organisations and Community Groups with information about funding and fundraising. SYFAB doesn’t award funding itself but can help with sourcing information and advise about completing grant applications.

SYFABs services are free and include:
• Information service – possible funding streams
• Development workers in the South Yorkshire area including Barnsley
• Funding News – a newsletter which gives up to date information
• Training – Accredited courses about fundraising and funding
